Holiday Happenings!

Where to start....

Served "supper" to Bison Basketball including pool tourneys and barbies with Ruby (now that speaks to kind of players we have); Made trek to the 'Sip for special time with our families; took Communion with Hickory cousins; Refs cheated LU at Arizona in OT buzzer beater (surely they are not sleeping well); Jay flew into Jackson International; Saw MSU Bulldogs in action; visited nursing home; Santa came; Larry went back to North Pole on Christmas Day; played DS with Nana; rode bikes, scooters and horsies at Gran and Granny's; and now prepping to ring in New Year with very dear friends.

Highlights including meeting Wilkes Wallace (our youngest family member),

Taking my children to see my grandma in the nursing home

Meeting Warren Oakley (Frances new husband both in their 80's!) He has 2 purple hearts from WWII and great big smile

And experiencing times with our healthy, loving families who treasure us and our children beyond comprehension. Thank you for loving us and our children the way you do.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!

Meet Larry!

I wasn't sure if our elf Larry was a marketing ploy or truly magical. Willie found him under our Christmas tree on Friday with a the whole Elf on a Shelf story. Many families these days have been given an elf to help Santa it seems, and I guess Santa realized Jay and I could use all the help we could get. This idea was simply genius and I just wish I could have helped Santa with such an undoubtedly lucrative creation. Again, I was a bit skeptical; but it turns out Larry really is magical.

On Saturday morning, our early risers slept until 8---magical. Everyday since, they POP out of bed with excitement to go find Larry and make sure he has made it back from the North Pole.

Every day this week has been almost as magical as Christmas morning because of their excitement to find Larry and make sure he has made it back to us safely. This morning I went to wake Willie and announce that I couldn't find Larry. Willie sat straight up and said, "You have to trust in yourself," and he was off to find Larry buried in the fruit bowl.

Ruby is quite the angel except when you need to go somewhere in a certain time frame. Then she's the queen stalling, piddling, dilly dallying (sp?)--whatever you want to call it. Sunday, I had been herding her for a good 5 minutes before I had her headed upstairs in the right direction. I audibly mumbled "I hope Larry didn't hear that little episode." Ruby retorted, "I'm not a little episode."

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Christmas Spirit

We've really been enjoying our Christmas decorations. Ruby is especially proud of them and shows them off to our visitors. We've got 4 trees if you count the little trees in the kids' room. We only have 3 broken ornaments so far, but I can't not let them handle.. They rearrange ornaments and work the characters in our nativity scene over...they are so excited about Christmas.

We kicked off the week with Lighting of the Green on Campus starring Amy Grant. We're going to hit Jo Dee Messina benefit concert for Harvest Hands www.harvesthandscdc.com on Saturday assuming we survive Breakfast with Santa on Saturday morning. Willie's list for Santa is way too narrow. I'm trying to get him to give poor Santa some flexibility.

Daddy's team beat Mercer tonight down in Macon ---first conference game of season with an awesome win. Jordan hit 8 3's with career high of 31 points. Full story is at http://lipscombsports.com .Willie and I listened in on the computer until he could hold his eyes open no longer. Nothing like that kind of win to raise spirits any time of year, but especially uplifting to go into Christmas with conference wins under your belt. Everything will be all the merrier!

Kindergarten

You've heard that saying that "all there is to know you learned in Kindergarten." Alot of truth to that as Willie has accomplished tying his shoes, reading, coloring in the lines, thoughtfulness and the list goes on. In just a matter of months, so much has come together including 2 lost teeth.

During the Thanksgiving holidays, Willie popped out with "Mama and Daddy (interchangeable with pairings that clearly demonstrates he doesn't understand this jingle) sitting in a tree.....K-I-S-S-I-N-G (slowly making sure he doesn't miss a letter followed by long pause as he tries to remember the next part), first comes love, second comes 'Mary' here comes daddy with with a baby 'cage.'"

Thankfully, we don't learn EVERYTHING in Kindergarten or at least the first semester.

Many Thanks

The month of November felt like a week to me. Willie and Ruby's Halloween art was replaced with Fall and Thanksgiving themes in a matter of a day it seemed. Below are some pictures I managed to capture in the furious pace of our Fall. Despite the pace, my heart is filled with Thanksgiving as I've mentioned before. I've become keenly aware that it's by the grace of God that I've been dealt a more than fair hand. It's by His Grace that God wants to use us to serve those who are hurting. Our Lord has selected a mysterious way to spread his love. That way is me and you. My heart is full with Thanksgiving for that opportunity. My heart is full with joy for those who have served me the love of God and given me opportunity. As I shared with my Daddy this week, I'm so grateful for the heritage that Jay and I have been given. Every day in this house that heritage is being handed down to another generation---not perfectly, of course; but with the purest intention. My prayer as I held Willie and Ruby's hands, smelled their hair, locked eyes and hugged tight today is that they'll recognize the gift early and that their hearts will brim with Thanksgiving for what our Lord has done.

Here's a few pics from our celebrations of life this month!

Friends and Spooks!

We had a huge surprise and blessing when we found out friends from college days were passing through town on their way to lead a family conference in N.C. We volunteered in college with Eddie Willis' youth group. Eddie and Allyson are SO talented and wise that I just try to soak them up. Their family is simply beautiful and they rank at the top with the best behaved kids ever. I felt like Willie kept looking at me and wanting to say..."Mom, you didn't tell me that Selby was going to be beautiful!" We left the next day to travel to Miss and Willie asked when we came through thunderstorms...."Do you think it is raining on Selby's family?" Then, "do you think Selby is there yet?" I have about a 15 year old CD of Eddie's in my changer that Willie just loves. Eddie brought us 3 newer releases you could say so now he makes up 50% of my changer and the kids just sing their praises. It was a special treat when Eddie played LIVE some of his favorite praise songs for us before bedtime.

Just after the Willis' departed, the kids and I quickly took off to Mississippi for a long weekend including grandparents, fall fests, and country trick or treating.

I've never been so outdone I didn't have my camera. I just wasn't expecting the Topeka Tilton Fall Fest (same school my dad attended elementary school....I mean same building and everything) to bring such fun. Willie and Reagan loved the traditional carnival and picking out cheap prizes for all the games, but Willie eyed the mechanical bull on arrival. I actually know a little about bullriding since my brother was a mighty fine bullrider in the Miss HS Rodeo. I convinced Willie to check out the other games; but his determination did not fade. At the end of the carnival, he jumped on that bull and rode well over 8 seconds! However, I did think that operator was about to try to buck him off. We got that straight and all ended well except no photo.

Basically, you can drive 20 miles and maybe only stop at 3 houses when country trick or treating. There's a lady in their community who served up 73 trick or treaters.....Wow! I wonder how many miles were logged coming to her spooky yard. It was like a standstill haunted house. Ruby wasn't so sure at first, but she loves talking about ghosts and witches.....it's a benefit of an older sibling. Reagan was taking it all in and Willie was touching every ghost, witch, spider, skeleton he could find. Oh, and the lady FILLED their buckets with candy. Thanks, Nana and Papa for some serious TREATS.

To wrap up the week, the Bisons SCARED Freed Hardeman in an exhibition game!

October days

Last year, Jay discovered another talent! So....he and the kids could not wait to carve their pumpkins. This is the huge pumpkin that Willie brought home from his class field trip!

Yes, Willie's head is inside the pumpkin.

Here's what I got from Willie when I told him to smile naturally.

Great job, Daddy!

Here's the Ninja Warrior on the carousel at the Ghouls at Grassmere at the Zoo. They called it the scary go round that night.

I had encouraged Ruby to go as Fancy Nancy since we had all the stuff. She seemed fine with that until time to go....when she whirled on her heels and said, "I told you I wanted to be a cowgirl." So...she wouldn't wear a costume, but she had lots of fun anyway with her good friend Jake.

Before October closes, we'll celebrate Jay's 36th, last baseball game of the season and some more Trick or Treat!

Mercy Ministries --- 3 days left!

Some of you have heard that I partnered with at risk women in the Dominican Republic this month. These rescued women make beautiful jewelry. Through a missionary I met when in the DR earlier this year, I committed to be their U.S. partner for the month of October and broker their beautiful handiwork. I'm approaching $2,000 (in spite of the swine flu) and should get there before I ship it to next months' hostess who also happens to live in Tennessee. 100% of the money goes back to the mission field!

As always, Jay was ultra supportive of the commitment involved and my last showing is to the coaches at LU. Willie gave up his pool table for about 3 weeks for me to keep my display ready and Ruby was my sales assistant and inventory counter. My children are so about helping these "mommies."

And, thanks to all of you who purchased jewels and helped serve these women in a very real way. I received an email this morning from Alli (the missionary that organizes this particular ministry). The women in the program have a desire to reach other women for Christ....that's what it's all about! They are building relationships with some prostitutes in the area and are planning to host a retreat for them to take them out of their environment for a few days to do activities, crafts, and hear God's word. Please be in prayer for them as they prepare, start inviting 5 specific women, and have their eyes opened to the situations around them.

Ok....I know I owe you grandparents costume pictures and Willie's first lost tooth! Now, that's been a bigger deal than I could have ever imagined.

And "the Cloud" is lifting.....

I've been thinking the cloud (of sickness) was lifting for the last 3 days but today's the first REAL day that I felt a little like myself....

1) I brushed my hair and teeth in the same hour today. There were days this week that both didn't happen in the same day.

2) I cared enough to put things away and carry something with me to the other end of the house in every trip. (that's my BIG secret ....don't walk anywhere for any reason without taking something that belongs in that area)

3) I walked to the other end of the house. Most days this week....I didn't leave my bed.

4) We left the house and actually went somewhere. First time, I went voluntarily anywhere since Tues afternoon. We went to Ghouls at Grassmere (Halloween event at the zoo). It was great to get out of the house, but WAY too cold.

5) I am grateful again! I have grown a grateful heart about the smallest of things in the last few years, but I don't remember saying thank you for anything this week. I was just surviving... As I get better, I am thankful for the sickly days as I truly am grateful for our health.

Can't wait to share pics of Willie's Halloween costume with you which he donned at Ghouls at Grassmere....coming soon!

Funny stuff

Now, it's just funny to me how girls Willie sees occasionally and I've never seen him have much of a conversation with evidently know him much better than I thought.

We were set to host our Sunday School party this weekend in our backyard. Well, God sent some serious thunderstorms so we pulled together a rain location (which worked perfectly). After the party, one of my girl friends from church told me that she was telling her carpool (2nd graders) on the way home that tonight was a church party and they needed to go home rest up and get ready for the church party. They retorted...."church party.....I thought it was Willie's party?" She started to try to explain it was originally at Willie's house but they kept on about Willie so she eventually explained that "Willie's party" had been moved to the church.

Today, another dear friend who is expecting was sharing that they were coming up with a list of boy names. Their 3 year old was helping come up with names and her # 1 favorite name was "Willie. "

This stuff makes me chuckle (for now)!

A few favorites

Some of favorite things in life have converged this week......

1) Autumn is my favorite season. The leaves are just starting to turn here and we're having more crisp days than warm ones. It's our first fall season in this house which is surrounded by hills. Well, we call them mountains, and I can't wait to see them in full fall colors.

2) My favorite times with the kids are when we are playing at home. It's the place where you get to hear their imaginations at work. And the extra bonus is when you play in your pj's until your nap time.

Willie generally acts out football games with live commentary by him on every play. Tonight he said....

WW: Mom, you know how people who smoke are infected?

Me: You mean addicted?

WW: Yeah, well I think I'm addicted to football:) and I'm really addicted to the Miami Dolphins. (???)

3) I absolutely love fabric. I love going to fabric stores and dreaming about how to use beautiful fabrics. Mom, I know you wanted to see this kitchen valance. The picture doesn't do it justice but you get the idea, and the beads are so yummy you could eat them! My grandmother Mary Sue had a fabric store once. She passed away when I was 4 yet I've always felt so close to her. I realized just the other day she surely loved fabric as much as me.

4) Basketball season. Of course, I could do without the pressure it can bring, and the crazy schedules can be well, crazy.....but I love the season on the whole. Practice is one week from tomorrow. Pre season polls came out this week and guess who was picked #1 in the coaches' poll? Check out www.lipscombsports.com for the full news story. Adnon was named to the pre-season all-conference team which tickles me when I remember all the hours Jay spent recruiting him!
Well, I'm signing off before my favorite day of the week arrives here in the next half hour. Hope you all get to enjoy a favorite of yours this weekend!

September Games

September has just flown by! Fall ball is underway. I told a fellow coach's wife (baseball) the other day.....I can't imagine being married to a baseball coach. I mean those games are so long, they play like 3 in one weekend and I hate a foul ball (which she can relate to since she got hit by a foul ball in the press box at Vandy). BUT---I could watch Willie play baseball all day long which might be a good thing b/c he rated our family sport of basketball as his third favorite sport today. (It goes like this right now football, baseball, basketball.) Here's Willie with his first game ball of the season. He was the lead-off batter the other night and hit a home run first hit of the game.

Then there's the college football season....the Vandy game with the Wallace's was quite soggy, but the DAWGs fought it out. We spent much of that Saturday scouring the city for ponchos and water boots. They were a selling out fast but so worth the hunt!

Thank you, my dear family, for coming so far to be with us. I love yall! You know we play MTSU in just a few weeks if you want to do it all again!

Weekend Wows!

We had alot of Wows this weekend!

Ruby was wowed by the red polish that Ronda whipped out of her purse at the volleyball match on Friday night.

Jay and I were wowed that our kids woke up later than usual on Saturday and didn't wake us up. We woke up to the sweet wisdom that Willie was sharing with Ruby in the kitchen as he fixed her breakfast. He peeled a hard boiled egg (previously boiled), toasted her waffle, provided her fruit and made her some chocolate milk by himself. Jay and I just laid there in our nearby room listening to their sweet exchanges.
After some exercise, we headed out for a little Saturday fun and ended up at the Greek Fest....I'm guessing it's our 8th annual trip. The Greek food, of course, wows me and Jay. The games and pony rides wow our kids.

After some rest, Jay and I headed out to the Symphony with Kate and Brandon. The symphony presented an Americana show which connected all kinds of music in America's history including a bluegrass/country flair that I totally appreciated and surprise visit from Emmy Lou Harris. But the wow moment of the night for us was when "Honeyboy" Edwards feebly took the stage. He's a Shaw, Miss boy that's only 94 years old. He wrote Sweet Home Chicago.

Check out his tour schedule at http://www.davidhoneyboyedwards.com/. He'll be in London next week. Honeyboy is the last living legend that played with Robert Johnson, King of the Delta Blues. We were fortunate enough to be invited to the after-party to meet the musicians.

Here's us with HoneyBoy! Is Jay not at one of his happiest moments?! We, of course, talked to him about the Sip and Jay asked him if he knew Jay's elderly friend from Shaw, Boo Ferris (also a living legend http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Ferriss ). To which Honey Boy replied, "yeah, that's old WD Ferris' boy...." that cracked us up b/c he was remembering the generation before Boo.

Wow! I'm grateful we still have so much fun together.

After church on Sunday, we took some long naps with intermittent football and tennis (both in our backyard and on TV). Plus we got some house projects done as we welcome family this coming weekend in anticipation of a big WOW from our beloved Bulldogs.

Apple Orchard

Morning Glory!

Morning Glory Apple Orchard that is.

Mrs. Thompson's Class.

My favorites are getting to know the other parents and counting the # of moms who tell me that their daughter is Willie's girlfriend:) I didn't know which girlfriend to include here so I chose one of his best buddies, Teddy.

Football and Family Weekend!

Starkville was rocking this weekend with the third largest crowd ever. Dan Mullen debuted with a victory. We got to cheer for the football players as they unloaded off the bus....quite the interesting fashion show may I add. Willie was not overly impressed as you might think he would be. I think he's a bit of a resentful fan and I hope he might come around one day. He did cheer for State but I think Jay told him he couldn't go to the game if he didn't. The Vandy game is here this year and I'm afraid that Willie might not come around for our Bulldogs. Willie's favorite part was playing football himself at the tailgate with Reagan and Uncle Steven. During a rain delay, two trainers were on the field tossing the ball, Willie said, "Mom, can I go down there and throw the football?" We had good seats at the game; but we were over half way up the stadium. He was so serious:)

We're so grateful that Jay's family lives in Starkville now. We get to visit sacred ground to us everytime we visit family.

A couple of unexpected highlights.....We saw several of Jay's college teammates this weekend including Rula, Super D, Marcus, Big Damp plus Coach Stansbury. Hard to believe that Erick is still going strong for the Mavericks (13 years). And Jay and I shared with Jeff's youth group on Sunday night! A big treat to share our relationship blessings of 18 years with them.

We made it home in 5 hours today, and we had the yard cut and kids in bed before dark. Actually, the kids put themselves in bed!

Jesus Loves Me, This I Know

Ruby was presented her 2 year old Bible in the Chapel last Sunday. The coolest part to me was that Ruby was REALLY excited about this event. Papa gave Ruby a New Testament recently and she carries it almost everywhere in a little monogrammed purse that Nana gave her. She even has slept with it in lieu of a doll. Then there's a couple of Bibles of mine she pulls out for what she calls "Bible Class" and she teaches a class to imaginary friends I suppose. So getting her own illustrated Bible just like Willie's was a big event.

Here's Miss J. presenting her with her Bible.

To wrap up the ceremony, the parents held children and sang Jesus loves me! I snapped this shot of Ruby and Jay behind big tears. How can she be 2? How will God use her?

Family Photos

Check out www.mandyjohnsonphotography.com/blog/ September 1st entry.

We haven't seen our proofs yet. Mandy came highly recommended, and she can make anything look pretty good which is hard to believe when Willie's personality ranged from hyena to grumpy old man during the session. Of course, Ruby is generally all about the camera.

The best part was Mandy came to us, and I'm honored she found a happy home. It's true though. Thank you, Lord, for the blessing of your love. Thank you, family, for making obedient choices long, long before we ever came around.

Back to School Part 2

Here's some pics definitely for the grandparents and whoever else can stand it.....Most everything since back to school including Day #1, Ruby's fashion show, Canoe Trip, multiple Sounds games, church picnic, LU soccer game, backyard goodtimes.......I honestly can't believe how much fun we make in a week!

Back to School

We're underway back at school and it's all going so smoothly. Willie has no grumpiness yet which I generally attribute to fatigue. Jay doesn't like me to say he is tired around him (for it will become an excuse in life) so I'll use "fatigued" until he adds it to his vocabulary. I overheard him use "invincible" recently so I imagine it's only a matter of time.

Daddy planned us a fun outing last weekend to canoe the Harpeth River! I had to admit I had some reservations with a 2 year old involved. We canoed 7 miles with the Buisson's. My favorite parts of the adventure certainly included the scenery and eating our picnic and surprisingly playing pirates with the girls. Ruby and Anna Belle were in our canoe yelling "girl pirates" at the boys. They spit, splashed and pretended to surprise attack the boy pirates. (Oh, I also immensely enjoyed every time Melissa got annoyed with Bobby for not helping paddle enough:)) Jay had some allusion that he'd be able to fish some along the way. I could have told him that wasn't going to work, but I held it in to prevent putting a damper on this fun adventure........he did manage on a fluke to hook this fresh water mussel with Willie's little fishing rod.

Last night, was the annual back to school picnic at church which includes lots of inflatables and lots of friends. This year they featured a dunking booth with the youth director (Travis) in it. Travis is one of our good friends. Willie was one of the youngest kids lined up to dunk him. I wasn't surprised one little bit when he did it either! Everyone cheered for our little guy and Travis even lured him into giving him a high five once he came up for air. Willie, of course, got splashed instead of a high five. Willie ran to the back of the line to do it again. Ruby was talking to Nana on the phone tonight. With no prompting from us, she was talking about jumping at the party at her church, the tickets in her pocket and "Willie threw a ball and knocked that man in the mater (water)."

Willie & the Poor Boys

Willie & I took in a Sounds game tonight. Boys' night out.  Best part for him was the concessions. Peanuts, cotton candy, Icee's. Best part for me was his reaction when I told him that just the two of us were going to the ballpark.

This is our conversation in the car on the way to the game as best as I can recall it. CCR's "Down on the Corner" had just come on the radio.

Dad:  Willie, you might like this song.

Willie:  Why?

Dad:  It's about a boy named Willie.

Willie:  Hey, that's my name.

Dad:  (After a couple minutes of the song playing) What do you think?

Willie:  I like it, but it don't say nothin' about Willie.

Dad:  Yes it does, right there, it says "Willie and the Poor Boys are playin'..."

Willie:  I know some boys that are poor.

Dad:  Oh really?  Who?

Willie:  I'm not tellin'. It's a secret club. I'm the president.

Dad:  Oh really?

Willie:  Actually, I know about a rich boys club too.  Clay is in it and Davis is in it.  That's all.

Dad:  How do you know they are rich?

Willie:  (Incredulous) Clay's got lots of money! I've seen it! He's got thousands of monies!

Dad:  Really?

Willie:  Yeah...he's got three packs of pennies. He showed 'em to me.

Dad:  What about Davis? How do you know he's rich?

Willie:  Have you not seen how he dresses?  He's got forty dollars!

Dad:  How much money do you have?

Willie:  Forty dollars. That's how much you have to have to be in the club 'cause that's how much you have to have to be rich.

Oh, for the days when I felt the same way.  Although, based on that criteria, I'm not sure which boys' club I would get to join.

Summer's Last Hoorah!

Generally, we end every summer in Mississippi's high heat. This year we kind of caught a break though and actually had some mornings and afternoons (not on the same day) that were quite bearable even when we weren't in refreshing waters.

It doesn't take long to be with me, before you know I love Mississippi......and if I don't somehow mention my roots....my accent is a dead give away. I will always be a Mississippi girl at heart. When we crossed the state line, I felt at ease immediately. I gave out a hoop and holler as we snaked down hwy 45 on the way to pick up our kids. Jay didn't even look at me like I'm crazy b/c he felt it too. We were home.

We kicked off this summer's week-long visit in Starkville. Willie and Ruby preceded us by a couple of days and were thrilled when we arrived. They are very at home at Gran and Granny's. Ruby's first thing she wanted to show me was her "other room." Uncle Jeff and Aunt Laura always come for a family dinner at a minimum. Ruby wanted to see Aunt Laura's baby in her belly and kept trying to pull up her dress. Uncle Jeff was playing Willie in battleship which was so nostalgic for me since I remember playing many games of Battleship at my own grandmother's. We were grateful to see great grandma Frances at her new house before heading out of town the next day. Gran and Granny had some fun but were ready to recuperate before their big Alaska trip.

Then we were headed South. After 30 minutes on the road, it was time for lunch so we stopped in Louisville to eat with Uncle Jeff. Hit the fried pickles there.... so mark that off my must-do list.

Then we made it another couple of hours to Brandon to do a surprise pick up of cousin Reagan and stop by Uncle Steven's office for bathroom break. We were like a herd of cows tromping in there and interrupting business. Everyone was glad to see each other and the ol' boy Steven was meeting with didn't seem to mind the interruption one bit claiming that b/c he was from Magee....it was all good. Ruby looked up and was horrified (her face was like a deer in headlights) by the 13 point mounted on Steven's wall. I tried to reassure it wasn't one of the deer from our backyard and it was a prize to be proud of in this case.....I'll never forget the day he killed that deer in high school. I was working a little holiday day job basically 3 counties away from the big kill. I hear someone at the office say that some kid had killed a 13 point that morning in Madison County. It didn't take me long to confirm (pre-cell phone) it was Steven who I knew had been hunting over there and I proudly spread the word it was my brother!

That night, we all met at my mama and daddy's for long-awaited family time. Uncle Steven and Aunt Charity joined us for fresh vegetables (including perfectly fried okra) and I can't even remember the meat now since the okra was so right. The next couple of days, we hit Uncle Joel's pool which is my favorite swim spot in the world. 1) it's always hot and I'm not freezing in the pool 2) the pool is situated such that you can only see sky when in the water and 3) cows come up to the split rail to peer in. We also hit the same spring-fed creek we visited last year. The boys skipped rocks for hours and we sat our chairs in the creek after our picnic. Ruby played in the sand and blew bubbles in the creek. On Thursday night, we went to the fish house in Shivers. We were grateful to be in town on a Thursday night this year so we had our pick of which fish house to visit. We drove about half hour to this fish house and my Aunt June, MaryAnn and Uncle Butch met us there. Can't beat eating fried fish and getting to have a little reunion all at the same time.

Mama and I got to do shopping for the first time in about 5 years (my kids are getting of age to hang....)......I like to hit Cutie Pa Tootie's end of season sale for Ruby. Plus, I got to visit the Cotton Patch this year.....beautiful fabrics for $5 a yard. For those of you like Jay and wondering, that's about 1/4 of what I'd pay at my favorite fabric store here. I figure they basically have no overhead so they can afford to sell close-out fabrics at an unbelievable deal. They need a guest book there b/c folks were coming from all over the country....as this Nashville girl was leaving some folks from PA were entering.

Reagan had to get home to start first grade on Friday so it was just us.....the sad part came when I made the 5 a.m. decision that we'd just go on home late that afternoon with Jay (in lieu of him flying which was the original plan after a key recruit rearranged his visit to campus). The kids were exhausted and while I cried for having to leave....this Mississippi girl was ready for home in Nashville, TN. We headed out after Jay got to do his annual work at the Sheriff's office with Daddy and we spent some time with my Grandma Nina at her nursing home. Not sure if she knew us. She cannot talk well now but she plainly said "that's a nice boy" when I reintroduced her to Jay. She's always loved him.

Thanks to all of our family for the rearranging of schedules and personal sacrifices made when we make our visits. It can be hard to live far away but it does make the visits so sweet and we truly appreciate everyone's efforts to take off from work, plan fun outings, cook favorite meals and create the quality time we so treasure.

Jay did his recruiting thing on Saturday when we got back. The kids and I just were thrilled to unpack and be at home never leaving the place. We're caught up and refreshed, for Kindergarten registration is tomorrow!
